Lawrence of Arabia Is All About Inventory Management

In the classic film Lawrence of Arabia, T.E. Lawrence is given the task of waging a war in which he has no artillery or air support against a more powerful and well-armed adversary, the Turks. How does he manage to win this war? By disrupting his enemy’s supply chains.

Lawrence of Arabia, QuickBooks Inventory SoftwareThat’s right; Lawrence of Arabia is a movie largely about inventory management. Sure, there’s a bunch of compelling drama, exciting battles and an interesting character study, but for me, the movie boils down to how well people handle their supply chains.

Supply Chain Management

In the Arabian Desert during World War I, there were two main ways of transporting troops and supplies: camel and train. By camel, Lawrence took his men across deserts that were supposed to be impossible to cross in order to take enemies by surprise.

After Lawrence established his army’s method of transportation, he sought to disrupt the Turks’ method of transportation: train. He bombed vulnerable spots along railroad tracks and stole supplies from trains. This made it difficult for the opposing forces to have a secure supply chain because they couldn’t defend every part of the railroad, and it took time to repair the damage Lawrence did.

How This Applies to Your Business

What does all this mean for your business? I by no means condone bombing anyone’s supply chain, but sometimes your supply chains can be metaphorically bombed by inaccurate orders, lack of inventory tracking or delivery problems. T.E. Lawrence is out there looking for weaknesses to exploit in your supply chain.

What you have, which the Turks didn’t have in World War I, is inventory tracking software. With inventory tracking software, you can pinpoint exactly where your orders are at any time. You can also quickly order new products to replenish your depleting supply.

Another important strategy is combining your inventory tracking software with QuickBooks to create QuickBooks inventory software. This is like metaphorically using camels and trains to successfully control your finances and inventory levels. Don’t let inventory management be the Achilles heel that makes you lose your battle for success. Try using QuickBooks inventory software today!
